Christ Church Gate
It has proved difficult to fit Christ Church Gate into any of the other style categories. In view of its importance it appears here separately. It is amongst the earliest in England to show Renaissance features.
Christ Church Gate was completed around 1521 - despite the misleading 1507 (in Latin) on the face of the gate. The vertical panels, pilaster and capitals on the front of the gate arguably represent the first signs of Renaissance architecture in England.
