The website of the Canterbury Historical and Archaeological Society (CHAS) has now been functioning for just over a decade. It started with coverage of the Society activities (membership, meetings, excursions, etc) but then grew piecemeal – first the city centre, then street scenes, then architecture, followed by the cathedral itself, building stones, and the precincts.
As each section was developed, it was given its own index. The result has been a website that is now very large (approaching 900 pages) but has lacked a quick and easy means of finding what the reader is looking for.
To meet this need, we can now offer a single A to Z index that covers the site as a whole. Each index entry provides a clickable link to the apprpriate web page. We hope this improves your enjoyment of the CHAS site. Letters A to Z above will take you to the selected index page.
A few guidelines may assist:
names of individuals are generally entered under the initial letter of their surname
individuals normally styled 'Archbishop' or 'Dean' appear under their surname
names of individuals or buildings normally styled Saint or St appear together under letter S
where individuals are well known by other names eg the Black Prince we have used this
I am grateful to Joyce Ainslie for carrying out the substantial task of proof reading of the 800 or so index entries, including the hyperlinks and page contents.
